A teacher needs to hold the students attention throughout the presentation to get the lesson across. That can come in various forms: The teacher isn't really interested in this particular part of the class. That can't come across to the students or the students won't consider it important. Therefore the teacher has to act as if it's the most interesting thing ever! The teacher can take on various characters to demonstrate the lessons in one way or another. And the teacher can be a character in, for instance, having a "duel" with pointers and some students while reading "Robin Hood" or taking opposing points of view in the American Revolution between the Colonists and the Tories.
